She's a Learning Machine!

Alisa usually lets me feed her with a spoon, but sometimes she takes the food off the spoon and puts it in her mouth using her hand, other times she picks up food from her tray and puts it on the spoon for me to feed her. It's funny (and messy). So far she doesn't play with her food much (just the occasional pea squishing)--she's all about eating it and eating it quickly (like her daddy).
The past week, Alisa has been walking over to me, wrapping her arms around my legs and kissing my legs. It's so sweet.

On Friday, she was trying to jump for the first time. She'd squat down and then quickly stand up while trying to push up with her legs. Sometimes one leg would leave the ground so we'd get really excited. She was having fun and seemed proud of herself. So cute!

She's REALLY interested in the alphabet lately. She loves the ABC song and sometimes tries to sing along (in jibberish though). She loves going over to the plush ABCs that are hung at the bottom of her crib railing and pointing at them. I say the letter and make the sound as she points to each one. Her favorite letter is H with M, N and W tied for 2nd place. She always going to the H first and makes the sound. My car (a Honda) has a big H on the steering wheel so she was excited to discover that when she was sitting on my lap one day while we were in the library parking lot waiting for the car to cool a bit (especially the buckles on her carseat). One day, she found a W on a toy and made the sound for it (without prompting or help). I was impressed. She's started paying attention to the letters in her books more than the animals (since she can already point to all the main animals). One book has all the letters with an animal for each one and instead of looking at the animals as she used to do, she's been pointing to the letters and wanting me to say the name and sound. I didn't realize she would start learning her ABCs so young. I haven't looked to see if it's normal at this age or if she's just a little genius. :)

Here she is holding the plush letter H:

She's also been kinda trying to count on her fingers. She'll have her hands out and move a finger as she talks jibberish, but in a rhythmical counting fashion. She likes listening to me count, especially a 1-2-3 count where she'll do something at the end (like sit down in the bathtub).

She can successfully point to her main body parts as you say each one, which is really cute to watch. She'll even point to the parts on stuffed animals. She says "eye" as she points to the eyes, but doesn't say any of the other ones.

She'll still says "mama" and "dada" (saying dada more frequently than mama, as always) and "hi" when she waves. She says "moon" when she sees it in the sky or in books or on TV. She says "nana" for banana and "mum-mum" for her snacks that are called mum-mums. She occasionally says "uh oh" and "woah." She doesn't use any other recognizable words yet.

She makes the correct sounds for the following animals: dog, cat, cow, horse, monkey, elephant, lion, bear, snake, owl.

She watches the following shows every week: The Backyardigans, Curious George, It's a Big Big World, Sesame Street. It all started when I needed something to keep her busy while I cooked dinner because at that point in her life (before she was walking well), she cried whenever I left the room. It's fun to see Alisa recognize the music and characters on the shows--she gets excited when the opening song plays and when she sees the characters in books. Today, she was a little upset during the closing song of The Backyardigans because she knew the show was almost over. She stood up and walked towards the TV babbling in a slightly upset tone but then actually waved goodbye to the characters.

She also enjoys watching the show "So You Think You Can Dance" with us because she loves music and dancing. She likes to dance along (to the upbeat music) and has recently taken a fascination to spinning.

She is one learning machine and it is so neat to watch!
