Alisa's First Trip to New Jersey

We had a fun-filled week in New Jersey last week visiting Craig's family. Alisa flew for the first time and enjoyed it (I'll post about the flying experience later). [I'll use names/titles in this post from Alisa's perspective.]

Alisa acted really scared on the changing table in bathroom at the airport in Atlanta, so I guessed that she didn't like the bright lights above and the sounds of many flushing toilets. She pooped her diaper during the 2nd flight so I had to change it at the Newark airport and again she was scared and actually clinged to me as I laid her down. It was awful. She cried hard every time we changed her diaper during the following 2 days. Whenever I said, "It's time to change your diaper" she said, "No" and ran away. By Thursday morning, she was getting better and just wimpered a little. First, I thought her leg hurt because she was awkward and stiff and cried more when I lifted her by her legs before wiping. Then I thought it might be a phase where she just hated to lie down and have her diaper changed. Later, I decided her bottom must hurt (even though it wasn't really red) and she was initially crying in anticipation of the pain (unlike in the past when she'd only cry when we were actually wiping her sore bottom).

Anyway, we arrived on Monday afternoon and Grandpappy (Craig's dad) and Casey (Craig's step-brother) picked us up from the airport. Alisa hadn't napped but didn't cry when meeting them or being held by them (very rare when she's tired). She fell asleep during the hour ride to Great Aunt Mary Ann's house where we were going to be staying. We had pizza for dinner with Grandpappy, Casey, Great Aunt Mary Ann and Nana (Craig's mom, who was visiting from West Virginia and staying there too).

On Tuesday, we went to Chris & Karen's house (Karen is Craig's cousin, so she is Alisa's first cousin once removed) and Alisa met her second cousin Kinsey for the 1st time. Kinsey is 14 months old. I got the tour of their magnificent new house and the girls played together until we left because Alisa needed to take a nap. After Alisa woke up, we went swimming at Great Aunt Margie & Great Uncle Larry's house. They have a beautiful yard with lots of flowers and a pond. I love their pool with all its seats, steps and ledge all around the deep end for standing by the wall. Larry grilled hamburgers for dinner--mmmmm!

Alisa quickly bonded with Nana and was constantly going over to her, taking her hand and walking to the door indicating that she wanted to go outside (it was a nice break for me). Nana let her play with all sorts of cool things outside, such as flowers, bugs, rocks, dirt, grass, sticks, leaves, and a fountain.

On Wednesday, Alisa played with Nana outside and met Uncle Chris and his dog Morgan (who is big and black like Minga). Nana, Alisa and I went shopping at the nearby outlet stores in the afternoon (I bought Alisa some fall clothes from Carter's) and then ate ice cream and sorbet while Craig went to a friend's house. Then we went to a picnic dinner at Grandpappy's where Alisa and I met Great Aunt Dee Dee and her daughter Donna. There was another girl about Alisa's age there so they interacted a bit (mostly kept taking a ball from each other).

Alisa borrowed some of Kinsey's toys while staying at Great Aunt Mary Ann's house:

I didn't bring Alisa's bath toys so she got to play with cups in the bathtub for the 1st time and she loved it:

On Thursday, Alisa played with Nana outside a lot and ran in grass for 1st time while holding Nana's hand.

Thursday evening, we drove to Huntingdon Valley, PA to eat dinner with our good friends (and former Tulsa neighbors) Mark & Beth. Alisa and their baby Willow (12 months old) played together all evening. It was my 1st time to meet Willow and it was delightful. We hadn't seen Mark & Beth since they moved 2 years ago (a month or 2 before we moved to Florida). We had such a great night and we got home very late (Alisa fell asleep in the car).

On Friday, we went swimming in the morning with Kinsey at Great Aunt Margie's and then ate dinner at Great Grandaddy's retirement home with the Black side of the family (Nana, Great Aunt Mary Ann, Great Aunt Margie & Great Uncle Larry) and Dorothy (Great Grandaddy's new wife).

I forgot to pack swim diapers so Karen gave us a couple of Kinsey's. Well, we ran out after Alisa pooped while swimming so we tried a regular diaper to see what would happen. We knew it would fill up with water immediately but I momentarily forgot that the diapers these days have gel in them to hold the liquids in so I didn't realize how huge and hard/tight it would become. It was hilarious, but uncomfortable for Alisa so we took it off right away:

Saturday we went to a cookout at Great Aunt Margie's to celebrate Great Grandaddy's 90th birthday. Alisa and Kinsey played together again for a bit.

During the picnic for Great Grandaddy's birthday, Alisa helped herself to the food on Nana's plate and then kept putting her messy hand on Nana's knee. Nana was so sweet and patient with Alisa, she let her have so much of her food and she didn't react negatively about the mess.

Alisa loved Kinsey's necklace:

We flew to Tulsa Sunday morning (today). Alisa fell asleep during the flight. My parents picked us up from the airport. It was 105 degrees outside and it was gross. What a welcoming.
