Fun with the Hose

Alisa is still not feeling well and did not want to do much earlier today. She kept wanting me to hold her and then take her places (she did not want to be in the living room). The one thing that made her happy was going outside. She walked around on the balcony and then saw her empty pool. I let her play in the empty pool, which is usually fun enough for her. Well, it wasn't enough today. She pointed to the hose and made the sign for "water" so I put a swim diaper on her and Craig turned on the hose to fill the pool. She splashed for a bit but then threw up a little bit. She didn't like to see little chunks of food floating in the water (who can blame her?) so I took her out of the pool and dumped the dirty water out. Craig rinsed the pool and then we set it back down and put Alisa back in it. She played with the hose most of the time and loved it. I don't think she's played with the hose before because we always have just filled the pool a little and then turned it off.

I sat in a chair and read a book while she played with the hose, some toys and Minga (held the hose for Minga to drink from). After a good long while, Alisa started crying because there was junk floating in the pool. When I looked I first thought she had thrown up again but then I realized it was poop. Ew! I got her out of the pool and called to Craig for assistance. He got the trash can and wet wipes while I ripped off Alisa's swim diaper and rinsed away the poop. She didn't like that too much but was happy once I had finished and let her hold the hose. Craig took her inside to get dry and dressed while I emptied and cleaned the pool.

Those swim diapers just don't hold the poop in like they are supposed to! Alisa has worn the smallest size possible so they are really tight, but her poop has escaped a number of times. I will say that they are better than nothing because they do hold a lot of it in, but if you don't notice your child pooping and then promptly remove them from the water to change them, then the poop is likely to sneak out the top of the back in little bits as it becomes waterlogged. Disgusting!

We ate lunch right after that and Alisa felt much better. She played by herself for about an hour with various toys and books in the living room while I sat on the couch and sent emails from my laptop. It's rare for her to play so long without coming over to me for a snack or to be held or to try to mess with whatever I'm doing (usually on my laptop, which she finds irresistable). Then, I took her upstairs to change a poopie diaper. I read her some stories and put her down for a nap. She slept for just over 2 hours and is now happily chatting in her crib. I need to go get her now and figure out what to make for dinner.

Here is a video of her laughing as Minga drinks from the hose:
