Alisa put her bib on all by herself today at dinner time. I believe that's the first time she's correctly done it (got the velcro hooked on the shoulder and everything). She likes wearing bibs and will often ask for one even when she's just eating a snack. That's fine with me because I'd rather rinse her bib off after a meal (or shake the crumbs out after a snack) than have her shirt all wet and crusty (or crumbs all over the floor) from dropped food. Her bib is always dry by the next meal so we just use the same bib for a few days (as long as it's rinsed properly after each use it won't be crusty) and then throw it in the wash. We love the Bumkins Superbibs because they are waterproof with catch-all pockets. They have cute designs too--I got some Dr Seuss ones at Toys 'R Us.
Many of Alisa's friends don't use bibs anymore, but she still greatly benefits from using one (and as I said, she likes them). She knows how to use a fork and spoon but will usually only take a few bites with them and will then just use her hands. Even with yogurt, she still often uses her hands so then she gets VERY messy (hands, face, bib and tray) and definitely needs a bib. Thankfully, she doesn't touch her hair with her messy hands like some kids often do!
