I was sick on Sunday (throwing up all day) so Craig took care of Alisa all day. She woke up with a fever (though we didn't take her temperature to see how high it was--oops!). I had been cooped up in our room all day trying to sleep and hadn't seen Alisa even for a second so in the evening I just had to go upstairs to see her. She wanted me to hold her, of course, so we sat on the couch and read books. I was going to get her ready for bed, but she was so hot sitting on me that I felt nauseated again. I suddenly had to rush upstairs to the bathroom so Craig took over. Craig ended up sleeping in the guest bed with Alisa so he could quickly comfort her if she woke up. Also, he didn't want to catch what I had.
On Monday, I felt better (ate just a little to be careful and kept it all down) but Alisa had a cough, runny nose and still felt warm (but noticeably less). She was walking around playing and talking almost as usual so that was a good sign. We were having internet issues so I had to work from Starbucks for most of the day and that left Craig to take care of her again. As soon as I got home, I started sneezing and didn't really stop all evening. And then I had a runny nose.
Tuesday was about the same for Alisa (cough, runny nose, fever) and me (runny nose). Since Sunday, she hasn't been napping as long as usual and keeps waking up throughout the night but falls right back asleep after letting out a couple of cries.
On Wednesday, she still had a fever so I called the pediatrician. They set us up for a 2:15 PM appointment (the earliest they had available). Craig was away all day and Alisa seemed to take a turn for the worse. She was difficult to care for and it was a loooong day. Her appointment just couldn't come soon enough! She needed an early nap but I had to keep her up because of her appointment. Finally, we got to leave. Alisa cried a lot in the car. She was fine in the waiting room (we were the only ones in that particular room, which is 1 of 3) because I was holding her and we were reading books. We didn't have to wait long. She cried when the nurse came into the room she had told me to wait in. Her temperature was 101 (and she only felt slightly warm to me). She cried a little on the scale as the nurse weighed her, but she didn't cry as much as last time (her 18-month checkup) and she didn't squirm. She cried a little when the pediatrician came in the room a little later but not as much as last time.
Turns out she has a double ear infection from her congestion, so she'll be taking that yummy pink refrigerated medicine (Amoxicillan) for 10 days. I hadn't even thought of ear infection even though she's had one before. She wasn't pulling at her ears or anything. If she still has a fever on Friday then we are supposed to go in for tests because that would mean she had a fever for 5 days. I am praying that her fever will be gone by today because I do not want her to have to go through any tests! Please pray for Alisa!
