Potty Training - Days 4-14

The 4th day of training was the first day we left the house since we began. We had to follow Daddy to the repair shop where he left his Jeep and we gave him a ride home. As soon as we pulled out of the neighborhood, Alisa said, "I'm peeing." I explained about how we don't pee in our panties and the next time she needs to pee, she needs to tell me. When we got home I was going to change her panties and then go to a playdate but I felt her panties and they didn't feel wet so either she didn't pee or it was just a tiny bit. Whew. A little while after we were playing with sidewalk chalk at a friend's house, she was tugging at the front of her pants. I asked if she needed to pee (she had been drinking an apple juice slushee) and she said yes so we rushed inside to use her friend's potty. She sat there while I sat on the toilet because I needed to pee. She didn't pee. A little while after we got home, she peed in her panties.

Peed and pooped in her panties and I had no idea until she came close to me and I smelled her poop.

Half and hour later she was standing by me saying, "Mommy, I love you" so I suspected that she was peeing (since she often says that when she's doing something wrong). I asked her if she was peeing and she said, "Yes" and then I saw the pee puddling at her feet where she was standing on the cookie sheet that had magnetic letters on it.

Here's a summary of days 4-14 (a few details are missing because I forgot to record them--such as whether her pull-ups were wet or dry, but you get the idea):

Day 4 (10-21-09):
10:50-10:55 sat on potty but didn't pee
12:10 pee in panties
1:10 poop in panties
1:30 pee in panties
wet pull-up during naptime

Day 5 (10-22-09):
woke up in the morning with a dry pull-up (1st time ever!!!)
9:15 pee in panties--started peeing in panties and some dripped on floor then sat on potty to finish so some pee in potty (didn't see that happen though--I was in the kitchen at the time)
12:15 pee in panties
1:45 pooped & peed on potty!! (she was holding the back of her panties so I asked if she need to poop--she said no but when I asked a minute later because she was still holding her panties she said yes so I told her to sit on her potty)
wet pull-up during naptime
6:40 pee in panties (I came into the living room after putting dinner in the oven and Alisa simply stated, "I'm peeing" and she looked down at the puddle that was forming under her on the carpet.)

Day 6 (10-23-09):
9:40-9:50 sat on potty
12:00 pee on potty
2:00 told Craig she needed to pee and as she was pulling her pants down by her potty, poop came out and landed on the seat of her potty....she sat on it but didn't realize it...finished peeing in the potty and then Craig cleaned her up

8:05 pee in potty (pulled down pants & pull-up by herself without anyone else in room)
cried for a diaper before bedtime, which we found random since she hadn't seen a diaper in 12 days

Day 13 (10-30-09):
1:40 pee in potty
dry pull-up during naptime!
6:05 pee in potty
wore pull-up to Trunk or Treat and Fall Festival

Day 14 (10-31-09):
poop in pull-up when I got her out of bed in morning
wore pull-up to Fall Fest and stayed dry!
2:55 pee in potty
5:40 pee in potty
5:50 pee in potty
wore pull-up to Trick-or-Treating and stayed dry!

She randomly cried again for a diaper today--she got really mad and was shouting at us and insisting that diapers were not too small for her after Daddy said she had outgrown them....but then it ended suddenly as her movie distracted her. She hasn't seen any diapers since the 1st day of training and we found it really odd that she asked for them after more than a week of not using them.

By the 10th day, she stopped having accidents and was always going to the potty on her own without any prompting. She could pull her pants and training pants or pull-ups down and up by herself. She just needed a little help to wipe thoroughly (especially after pooping) and to empty her potty into the big potty upstairs and wash her hands. After 5 days of no accidents, I started putting her in her panties instead of the training pants. She has 101 Dalmations and Lady & The Tramp panties because she loves dogs. Most of the other panties at the store were Disney Princesses or Dora and she's not into those right now.

The past few days she's been repeatedly saying, "No accidents! No accidents! I pee in my potty!" and I've been praising her a lot. Occasionally she will ask for a treat so I will give her one as a reward for peeing or pooping in the potty (just as I did during the first few days). She gets excited almost every time and shouts, "I'm peeing!" and tells Daddy too if he happens to enter the room them. It makes me laugh when she shouts, "I pooped! It just slipped out!"

Next will be training her to use the big potty so that she can use public restrooms. So far I've been putting her in pull-ups or training pants when we go out and I put her extra potty in the trunk in case she tells me she needs to pee. The first few days she'd pee in her pull-up like it was a diaper, but then she stopped doing that and just didn't pee until we got home. Or, if we were at a friend's house, she'd use their little potty with no problem. Once I know she can use the big potty without fear, I will put her in panties when we go out. I've been bringing a change of clothes for her whenever we got out in case she has an accident. I'll keep putting her in pull-ups for naptime and nighttime until she is consistently waking up dry. I had to get the overnight ones with extra absorbency for nighttime because the regular pull-up leaked one night during the 1st few days (some nights she pees a lot and I'd rather not have to change the sheets again and risk that her stuffed animals will get pee on them).

I love that you are just as anal and exact about blogging as I am....charts, graphs all for peeing. I LOVE IT! You need to be my next door neighboor.

Well, I'm a lover of details...I just can't help it. Whenever I asked others about potty training their answers were so vague that it didn't help all that much. I figured this might help someone (if only myself when I train my next child). The books suggested recording poop & pee times at first anyway so you can get an idea on how often your child goes. Oh how I would LOVE to be your next door neighbor!!!!
